About Me

Navigating through life’s complexities can often feel like being lost in a fog, and in today’s fast-paced society, stress can quickly become overwhelming. As a therapist with over a decade of experience in mental health across various levels, I am dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and teens discover and tap into their strengths, enabling a focused approach to enhance their mental well-being. My commitment extends to assisting clients in managing a range of emotional challenges including depression, anxiety, grief, and trauma.

I employ a diverse array of evidence-based therapeutic modalities tailored to the specific needs of each client. My toolkit includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness techniques. These approaches help clients develop coping strategies that promote resilience and personal growth. Additionally, my practice is enriched by my completion of Gottman Level 1 training, which equips me to support couples in navigating their relationships through improved communication and understanding.

Therapy, as I view it, is a journey of exploration and healing. I strive to create a safe and open environment where individuals, couples, and teens can freely express themselves and work towards achieving their therapeutic goals. My passion for mental health drives my practice, and I am motivated by the profound impact positive change can have on the lives of those I work with. Together, we will navigate the challenges of life, clearing the fog and moving towards a brighter, more fulfilling future.

    About Me

Susan joined GBCC in August 2014 and has worked in private practice in Anne Arundel County for more than 20 years. Susan works with teens (15-19) and adults of all ages. Her areas of expertise include depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, stress management, life transitions, grief and loss, and eating disorders (binge eating and bulimia). She is also a specialist in the area of substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. Susan is a team member of the First Responders’ Care Program and also provides walk-in assessments for GBCC/Oasis in Glen Burnie and Odenton.

Susan believes that the foundation for successful therapy is the relationship between the therapist and client. First and foremost, she is a compassionate and caring listener who seeks to understand her clients’ concerns and priorities. She utilizes motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral techniques, and also teaches clients more effective ways to meet their needs. She recognizes that emotional health involves body, mind and spirit. Susan also works closely with her clients’ physicians and maintains strong referral relationships with psychiatrists in the local area in the event that a client may benefit from medication.

Besides her clinical work, Susan serves GBCC Behavioral Health in the role of Continuing Education Program Coordinator, developing training content for GBCC providers and other professionals. Susan’s other professional experiences include serving as the Site Director for the Renfrew Center in Bethesda which provides partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment for individuals with eating disorders, the successful opening of an outpatient clinic for individuals with substance use disorders in Annapolis, Maryland in 2019 for Kolmac Outpatient Recovery Centers, and the expansion of mental health and psychiatric rehabilitation services for Concerted Care Group. Susan served as the Director of Epoch Counseling Center for 12 years, overseeing all aspects of the agency’s clinical and administrative functions in its three locations in Baltimore County, Maryland. As Director, Susan was responsible for adding a number of new services at Epoch including intensive outpatient treatment for both adolescents and adults, juvenile drug court treatment services, buprenorphine maintenance, anger management, mental health counseling and peer recovery support services. Susan also has active relationships with several local graduate programs in counseling and has served as clinical supervisor for dozens of students. She holds a Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Susan served for 8 years on the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

        About Me

We live life in relationship with others, often focusing on their needs. Sometimes, we lose sight of ourselves, resulting in feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and self-critical. I invite you to take a “time-out” from the chaos of life and focus on YOU. Let’s address the challenges you may be facing at home, work, or school, and within your romantic, friend, and family relationships. I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families addressing a range of mental health issues.

Creating a non-judgmental space for clients to feel heard and understood is the foundation of my treatment. I balance practical skill building, utilizing client strengths with addressing the emotional needs of each client. I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, and adults to address symptoms of anxiety and depression. I am skilled in several evidence based therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solutions focused therapy, and family systems therapy. Additionally, I utilize psychoeducation and mindfulness. I received my Masters of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling from Messiah College.
