    About Me (she/her/hers)

I’m Aleena Portugal, a Maryland-licensed therapist dedicated to helping children, adolescents, and adults navigate life’s challenges and thrive.

I specialize in trauma, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and personality disorders. My approach is eclectic and highly personalized, blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and person-centered techniques to meet your unique needs and goals.

My mission is to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where you feel empowered to explore your emotions, heal from past experiences, and develop tools for long-term growth. Whether you’re looking to manage overwhelming emotions, gain self-awareness, or work through life’s transitions, we’ll collaborate to uncover the strategies that work best for you.

Outside of therapy, I find joy in reading, staying active, traveling, and spending time with my dog—these moments of balance and inspiration help me bring my best self to our sessions.

      About Me

Hello there! I am Jiayu, and I’m professionally licensed in DC and Maryland. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Capital Normal University in my home country. With a strong sense of curiosity to learn more about different cultures, I decided to attend graduate school in the United States and earned my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling George Washington University at Washington DC.

Life is beautiful and full of challenges, and sometimes it can be difficult and lonely to deal with everything by yourself. I believe that everyone is unique and have the strength to heal from difficult situations. My aim is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to share as well as to be a listening ear and a compassionate support during our time together in therapy and help you uncover clarity, resilience, and balance.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I value cultural sensitivity and I use an integrative approach to therapy because everyone is different and have unique needs. I believe in the power of building genuine connections with my clients. I use a strength-based approach to help my clients and family heal and thrive. I also incorporate expressive art-based and play-based approaches into my work since talking is not always the language for everyone.
