About Me (she/her/hers)

Sometimes we find ourselves at a place in life where we could use some help. Regardless of your specific challenge, I believe healing and growth happen most through relationships, when we can share our story with another and feel a little less alone. I consider it a privilege to be this person for you.

As a therapist, I strive to help you find relief from distressing symptoms, while also facilitating deeper change through exploration and insight. I believe this happens best when we can understand the impact of our past, in order to have greater ability to choose how we want to live in the present. Practically, this looks like me showing up in curiosity to ask the right questions, listening both to what is said and what is unsaid, being attentive to and creating space for what you’re feeling in the moment, and occasionally challenging you from a place of care. I believe that the therapy relationship is the most important tool for healing, and I aim to create a space in which your complexities are welcomed, your vulnerability honored, and your pain is met with compassion.

I am a postdoctoral fellow and Licensed Psychologist. I received my PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Maryland College Park and have worked in various clinical settings, including university counseling centers and community clinics. I have extensive experience working with college students and young adults, and I currently work with adults across the lifespan.

I work with a variety of clinical concerns, with particular interests in relational challenges, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and religious/spiritual/existential concerns. If you are interested in working together or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to connecting with you.

    About Me

I am a Clinical Psychologist licensed in Maryland and Washington, DC with 15+ years of psychotherapy experience. I received my Masters’ Degree in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University (Bloomington), my Doctoral degree from the Loyola University of Chicago, and completed my pre-doctoral internship at the University of California, San Diego. I have worked in a wide range of treatment settings including hospitals, community clinics, and colleges/universities, with the most recent being the American University Counseling Center in Washington DC.

My therapy approach is holistic. I work collaboratively with clients to define their goals and create hopeful outcomes. We will explore various aspects of the presenting issues, strong emotional reactions that accompany them, interpersonal relationships, and important life events and transitions. I view therapy as an invaluable opportunity to expand and deepen understanding about oneself that is evolving and to attune oneself to emerging life contexts. Therapeutic work simultaneously extends to understanding past personal history and relationships and exploring future goals/directions to inform present life choices.

I believe that therapy strengthens a sense of agency as a person and enhances fulfillment in life experiences. I can conduct therapy sessions in Korean and provide individual therapy services for clients ages 18 and up.

      About Yosie

Joseph (“Yosie”) Friedman earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University, in the Bronx, New York. His love for clinical psychology is drawn from his deep compassion and passion for empowering others. He focuses on delivering evidence-based treatments in a patient-centered manner.

Yosie works with patients to identify the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and in turn explores how patients can utilize personal strengths and evidenced-based strategies to improve emotional wellbeing and functioning. He has particular interests in working with older adults as well as with individuals with anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders.

Yosie is also passionate about working with individuals with co-occurring medical conditions and psychological distress, helping patients optimize functioning and (re)build a life worth living. This passion was facilitated by his program’s health emphasis and nurtured by practicum and internship experiences working with patients experiencing comorbid medical conditions, including chronic pain and weight-related concerns, and providing services to many older adults. His dissertation was entitled, “Validating the Burden of Psychiatric Illness Scale (BPIS): A Measure of the Self-Perceived Impact of Psychiatric Illness on Psychosocial Functioning and of Stress Related to Managing Psychiatric Illness.” His doctoral research has helped develop his sensitivity to how psychiatric illness can affect many facets of a person’s life and his strong belief in a holistic approach to
