About Yosie
Joseph (“Yosie”) Friedman earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University, in the Bronx, New York. His love for clinical psychology is drawn from his deep compassion and passion for empowering others. He focuses on delivering evidence-based treatments in a patient-centered manner.
Yosie works with patients to identify the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and in turn explores how patients can utilize personal strengths and evidenced-based strategies to improve emotional wellbeing and functioning. He has particular interests in working with older adults as well as with individuals with anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders.
Yosie is also passionate about working with individuals with co-occurring medical conditions and psychological distress, helping patients optimize functioning and (re)build a life worth living. This passion was facilitated by his program’s health emphasis and nurtured by practicum and internship experiences working with patients experiencing comorbid medical conditions, including chronic pain and weight-related concerns, and providing services to many older adults. His dissertation was entitled, “Validating the Burden of Psychiatric Illness Scale (BPIS): A Measure of the Self-Perceived Impact of Psychiatric Illness on Psychosocial Functioning and of Stress Related to Managing Psychiatric Illness.” His doctoral research has helped develop his sensitivity to how psychiatric illness can affect many facets of a person’s life and his strong belief in a holistic approach to
