About Me

My name is Selima Jumarali and I am a queer, Indo-Caribbean, Muslim femme of color. I offer compassionate listening, authentic validation, critical questions and reflections, and skill development for coping with trauma and triggers. I support my clients with: exploring your racial, gender, sexual, and/or religious/faith identities; surviving and thriving in an oppressive world with multiple marginalized identities; navigating chronic illness or health concerns; developing self-compassion and self-acceptance; and moving through, and growing around, grief.

I can help you feel a greater sense of control and acceptance over your emotions (the good, the bad, the ugly); better predict how you will feel when and why; understand what your feelings are signaling to you; and help you quiet your inner critic and practice self-compassion. I will help you build healthy relationships, navigate conflict, and understand when you need to compromise, advocate for yourself, or set boundaries. I can also help you gain clarity and confidence about your academic or professional next steps. Therapy with me is a warm, interactive space to feel holistically seen, deeply heard, and vulnerably held. Ultimately, I want to help you create the life you actually want to wake up to every day.

I am an integrative therapist who draws from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Interpersonal Process Therapy. I look forward to working with you!

About Me

I earned my Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, with a specialization in clinical social work. During my clinical training, I provided psychotherapy services for adults and adolescents at a private practice.

I focus on helping clients navigate life transitions, internet and pornography addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, and relationship challenges. Utilizing techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I strive to tailor my clinical approach to meet the unique needs of each client.

Having previously worked as a website designer, I developed an interest in internet and social media overuse and addictions. I am particularly interested in the impact technology has on our psychological and social well-being, and I assist both adults and adolescents in overcoming addictive behaviors and harmful narratives.

My approach is rooted in compassion, goal-oriented strategies, and collaborative care. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with my clients and accompany them on their personal journey.

Outside of her clinical work, I enjoy drumming, connecting with other musicians, cooking, and exploring new trails and cities.

    About Me

I believe every individual is unique and possesses the strength and wisdom to overcome challenges or heal from difficult situations. My goal is to provide a safe, respectful, compassionate and non-judgmental place in which to collaboratively explore obstacles and identify solutions that will help you start the healing process and bring about a sense of peace.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and work primarily with adults, couples, families and groups. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to determine if I may have the privilege of walking alongside you on your journey towards well-being. I received my M.S. in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. My experiences in outpatient clinics, residential substance abuse facilities, and providing pro bono services in the community (hospice, churches) have given me diverse experiences in addressing a wide variety of life transitions, relationship issues, mental health concerns and addiction issues.

My specialties include anxiety, depression, addiction, grief/loss, life transitions, relationship issues, spirituality and stress management. I understand the disease of addiction and how it can impact the individual, family and friends. September — National Recovery Month

Recovery is more than just stopping and avoiding using substances. The process includes addressing the triggers, mental health issues and trauma that contribute to the disease of addiction as well as finding healthier coping strategies to navigate through life. Grief and the Holidays

While the holidays may bring celebration and joy, they can also be a difficult time for others, especially those who are in the midst of grief. Grief can be experienced with many kinds of profound loss (death of a loved one, death of a pet, loss of a job, loss of a relationship, moving, health diagnosis, etc).

        A Sense of Mattering

Mattering is the profound recognition that our lives are intertwined with each other and more connected than we think. To matter signifies that our thoughts, actions, feelings and choices have a lasting impact, leaving a trace and/or legacy behind us, in the next generation passed down through our children.

        The Strength of Spirituality

Although religion and spirituality have been synonymous throughout history, in the last couple of decades spirituality has detached itself as a separate entity and therefore can sometimes be overlooked. As this distinction has become more apparent, research has grown to show the benefits of spirituality in an individual’s health.

        Letting Go

What does it mean to let go? How do we do it? What are the benefits of letting go? I hope that these questions will spark a curiosity in us to search for these answers because letting go can be a tremendous life skill in our growth, in our lives, and our relationships. Similar to spring cleaning, if there are emotional and mental loads that no longer serve us well, we can begin to let go.
